After exchanging hands several times over the last few hundred years, the brand’s current ownership is in the hands of famed master distiller, Joe Magliocco. Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon is currently distilled and bottled at the company’s original distillery, Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery, located in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mash Bill

Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon shares many similarities to its peers in the whiskey market from a mash bill standpoint. Its ingredients by percentage consist of 79% corn, 11% rye, and 10% wheat.

The bourbon is aged for a minimum of 2 years and is most often aged for roughly 4 years to achieve its specific flavor profile. Michter’s Bourbon retains a 91.4 proof rating at bottling, which gives it a slightly higher than the average alcohol by volume percentage than most of its competitors in the market. 

Recommended Cocktails

Cocktail Choice #1: “Mint Tea Julep”

For this cocktail, you will need to gather 2 ounces of Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon, ⅛ ounces of Demerara syrup, ⅛ ounces of Zucca, and 4 mint leaves.

We recommend beginning the cocktail construction process by placing 2 mint leaves in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Next, add the remaining liquid ingredients into the cocktail shaker, and begin mixing for roughly 1 minute. Once the mixing process is complete, the cocktail is ready to be served.

Cocktail Choice #2: “Woody Sour”

For this cocktail, you will need to gather 1.5 ounces of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, ¾ ounces of Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon, ¾ ounces of lemon juice, ¼ ounces of Demerara syrup, ¼ ounces of Allspice Dram, 2 drops of bitters, and a lemon peel.

The construction of this cocktail is tremendously easy and straightforward. Simply pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, strain over ice into your highball glass of choice, and enjoy!

Tasting Notes


Upon first glance, Michter’s Small Batch appears to be a fairly traditional bourbon. However, upon further inspection, the bourbon’s nuanced colors, rich with honeyed amber tones, instigates an irrefutable attraction and curiosity on behalf of the taster for all the bourbon has to offer.


This Bourbon presents the taster with beautiful scents rich in oak, grain, corn, and raisin undertones. The scent profile is subtle and nuanced, resulting in a pleasant introduction to the tasting experience. 


The moment that the first taste of Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon makes contact with the palate, the first thing the taster will notice is the robust and full-bodied texture of the whiskey. Its flavor profile would be best described as sweet and smooth, consisting of vanilla, oak, corn, and honey notes.


The finish is moderate in length, with hints of honey, peach, pepper, and raisin fleshing out the final moments of the tasting experience.
