Merica Small Batch Bourbon

Cask Type

New Charred Oak

The story of Merica Bourbon is one that any true American patriot can get behind. Originally founded by Derek Sisson, the brand is American veteran-owned and entirely made in the United States of America. On top of all that, the bourbon is well-made and enjoyable in many cocktail recipes.

Many bourbon lovers appreciate that Merica Bourbon uses the finest American Grains available and employs a patented distillation technology designed to deliver their highest quality bourbon. Distilled by MGP and bottled by Famous Brands in Indiana, the company employs numerous veterans and donates a portion of its profits to veteran oriented charities.

Merica Bourbon’s Mash Bill

Merica Bourbon utilizes a slightly different mash bill profile than most traditional bourbons. The bourbon’s ingredients by percentage are 70% corn, 26% rye, and 4% wheat. This ratio of ingredients is largely responsible for the unique flavor profile of Merica Bourbon.

Keeping in line with Merica Bourbon’s departure from traditional bourbon production practices, the bourbon is only aged for 6 months. This is far less than most industry bourbons, which undergo anywhere from 2 to 10 years of aging.

Recommended Cocktails to Make with Merica Bourbon

Cocktail Choice #1: “Strawberry Whiskey Smash”

You will need to mix ¾ ounce of fresh lemon juice with ¾ ounce of simple syrup for this cocktail. Once complete, add 1 diced strawberry to the mixture, along with 4 or 5 mint leaves. Finally, add 1.5 ounces of Merica Bourbon with ice, and mix in a cocktail shaker. Serve the cocktail over ice and enjoy!

Cocktail Choice #2: “The Elder Fashioned”

Mix ¾ ounce of St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur with 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters, and add 1.5 ounces of Merica Bourbon. We recommend building this cocktail directly into your lowball glass, as the mild separation of each ingredient enhances the dynamic tasting experience.

Tasting Notes

Visually, Merica Bourbon exhibits a light golden color, reminiscent of an amber-colored apple juice. The aesthetic of the bourbon is warm and inviting to any bourbon connoisseur.

Merica Bourbon’s aroma is both pleasant and distinct. Upon initial introduction, the bourbon conveys wonderful notes of fruit, oak, and rye spice. Over the following few seconds, the bourbon transitions smoothly to effusing a smooth honey and sweet vanilla aroma.

Given the short aging period of Merica Bourbon, the spirit is more unrefined in taste than most other bourbons. The tasting experience of Merica Bourbon would be best described as having hints of fresh oak, unrefined rye and wheat spice, and finished with fruity undertones.

The finish is fairly smooth, quick with notes of grass and a touch of oak.
